SENIOR PARTNER, SENIOR CONSULTANT, GAINING EDGE
Why did you join the AIMEbassador program?
“I was involved in the start up of AIME and have always believed in the need for a strong platform to develop and promote the business events sector across the Asia Pacific region. It is also an ideal platform for regional collaboration and there is no better time that now for this to take place.“
What are you most looking forward to about AIME 2022?
“Bringing a “hurt” business industry together to collaborate, exchange ideas, build partnerships, build business for the future and a roadmap out of the COVID crisis.”
What are the top three words that best describe you?
The Business Events and Tourism industries have been heavily impacted by Covid-19, what makes you excited about the changes and opportunities on the horizon?
“The pandemic is forcing the industry to innovate and become more resilient – there is also a more collaborative spirit.
Pent up demand will help lead to a quick recovery when restrictions are lifted, there is a great yearning for the return of face-to-face meetings enhanced by new technologies. And most importantly there is also an opportunity for the business events industry to play a leading role in re-energising the global economy. Business events provide the perfect platform to provide and stimulate trade, knowledge exchange and creative economies.”
Who are your strongest influences in the industry right now?
“Destinations that are proving to be market leaders and innovators during the crisis e.g., Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Dubai and South Korea. They all have something in common government recognition of the industry, collaboration between industry and government and a vibrant industry ready to rebound.”
What makes you excited about in-person events coming back?
“The opportunity to reconnect face to face and build relationships – something that is next to impossible in the virtual world. The ability for more immersive and interactive experiences with people, cultures and places.”
When travel restrictions are a thing of the past, what are the top three places you can’t wait to visit?
“I have more than just three!
• Berlin where my son resides and who I have not seen for a few years.
• Malaysia where I lived and died for great street food.
• Macao where I been working since 2007 and love the contrast of old-world charm and the new world.
• Japan which is such a great place for food, cultural immersion and beauty.
• Africa which has been on my hit list for a very long time.
• Eastern Europe before it gets hit again by mass tourism.
• China – there is so much more to learn and explore.
• Anywhere in the Asia Pacific – my friendly neighbourhood.”
